At "Beacon House", it starts with the view ! We are 40m above the sea level overlooking the Brixham harbour & marina. Our house used to belong to a smack owner (trawler owner) in 1873 - Original deeds could be seen indoor. The decoration is rustic and maritime. We cook a lovely and high quality breakfast, with a French touch. Bay view, our room on the top floor has a 3.5 balcony overlooking the harbour, Beacon Room has very good view on to the harbour but hide an interesting story as it was used many years ago as a look out to avoid the taxman ! Marina view, on the side of the house has a wonderful view on the marina and if you are an early bird, this is the room to watch the sun rise, it is too the only room with a full size bathtub. We have a private car park for you to use - with overnight electric charger facility. So many things to do in the area from sailing, fishing, walking on the south west path, cycling - using our own tandem bicycle to visit the town. The English Riviera has so much to offer, you'll never get bored ! Unfortunately, due to its elevated position in the Harbour Bowl our house is not really suitable for those who are physically impaired.
Nathalie from Mauritius who speaks French, English, Mauritian Creole, Mandarin & Hakka arrived in Paris to study in the fashion industry in 1974. Whilst in Paris she met Hervé from Brittany who speaks French & English, we went around the world working in the catering industry for 16 years. In August 1991, we finally opened our dream French seafood Restaurant called “The Lobster Pot” in Kennington, London. Nathalie was taking care of the front of the house while Hervé was the grumpy French chef in the kitchen, and this for 25 years. It was a fabulous adventure, but at the end of 2016, we realised that it was time to take care of ourselves, and with real sadness, we closed down our darling Lobster Pot. 25th of July 2019 was the day we visited Brixham, we fell in love with this town, that day was the beginning of our journey to acquire “Beacon House” and ultimately to run a small but lovely Bed & Breakfast. Hervé, originally from Brittany dream to live by the sea, Nathalie, originally from Mauritius was missing the seaside ambiance, we both worked in the hospitality industry for all our working life and when you get hooked with that kind of living, it is very difficult to stop!
We can recommend you some lovely restaurants - Rockfish, Beamers, both very good fish restaurants, and a very good traditional English pub, the Queens where real Ales are to die for, all are walking distance from us. An unusual coffee lounge called the Chart Room is not to be missed 10 minutes away, Bob, your host used to work on the QE2, he is the captain on board here. You have too, a place called the Wine Loft, very good for a light meal and a fantastic bottle of wine. The owner is a real sommelier, tell him your taste and he will bring you the bottle you dreamt of. You could go sailing on an old restored boat called Vigilance, go fishing on another. Canoeing, windsurfing or... jet skiing, the world has no limits ! Walking around the south west path is amazing and much more to see. There is a very good Zoo not far, a steam train to go where Agatha Christie used to be... Tell us what you like and we shall help you to organise some holidays you'll never forget.
